Daimler, the German automotive company best-known for the Mercedes-Benz line of vehicles, evidently knows a lot about cars. So perhaps it’s no surprise its subsidiary, Mercedes-Benz Energy, is using vehicle technology and its knowledge of electric vehicles and now moving into energy storage. In 2017 Mercedes Benz was looking to install an energy storage function unit consisting of two complementary function modules that connected to an existing transformer and commission this at their manufacturing plant in East London. The two sub-units PCU and BSU needed to be implemented as self-contained systems that are minimally dependent on each other. The BSU is made up of lithium ion battery packs for their electric vehicle line. The total  power stored is almost 2MWh of energy ready for deployment via the PCU. This project is a first of its kind internationally for Mercedes’s Benz  and it makes for s very strategic parallel market in which they are looking to move into
