Fez Mzazi beams when he talks about relationships. “I’m a people person. Business is built on relationships. And value has to come from both parties in any relationship.”One of his strengths is assessing business from a global perspective. An exceptional communicator, he knows what international investors and capital markets find attractive and why.

Mzazi sums up his personal ethos: “I keep what I have by giving it away: cash, knowledge … Responsible capitalism creates social change, and I believe in skills transfer and mentorship. Giving back happens by teaching people not giving. Communication is massive to bridge gaps and build trust.”


Roth Watson

Managing Director

As a highly-motivated and results orientated Director within the Group, Roth has a proven track record of providing exemplary levels of service with his broad range of knowledge. Roth holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University with majors in Accounting and Business. He has almost a decade of experience in business origination in the renewable energy sector, mostly focused on photovoltaic (PV) power. Roth set up SolarTotal South Africa in 2010 as the country manager. By concluding a successful management buyout in 2012 he co-founded Sunworx. Roth has developed not only specific industry experience, but also a valuable and transferable skillset in this fast-paced sector allowing this strategic value to further develop the current skillset of others.

Thandi Makoko

Executive Director

After attaining a BA in Social Science from the University of Limpopo and Honours at the University of Cape Town, followed by her Master’s Degree, Thandi is both an example and a proponent of Sunworx’s commitment to development, upliftment and the empowerment of women in business. This success has earned her the respect of both the private and public sectors. Makoko shares the laurels for making Sunworx an icon of development and empowerment.

Jackie Leyds

Executive Director

Jackie holds a BA Social Science degree (Social Work), an honours degree (Human Resource Development) and a master’s degree in Social Development (Employee Assistance Programmes). Jackie’s expertise in translating strategy, policies, procedures, legislation, theory and practice into information management systems that can harness the potential of the labour market and help build an empowered, economically successful South Africa.

Carlos de Bonilla Olmos

Chief Technical Officer

Carlos studied Agricultural Engineering at Escola Universitària d’Enginyeria Tècnica Agrícola de Barcelona (EUETAB) and Business Management at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). With almost two decades of management experience in various engineering sectors, he joined SolarTotal in 2006 as managing partner. He was appointed country manager Spain in 2009. Carlos took part in developing utility-scale solar plants in Spain for Solar Global Invest BV. He brought his extensive experience and high-level solar PV expertise to the Sunworx South Africa team in January 2012.

Louis Minnie

Chief Operations Officer

Louis has been registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa since 1999 and is an active member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers. He contributes his knowledge and experience as a respected renewable energy professional to the design, project management, implementation and commissioning of Sunworx installations.

With a degree in Industrial Engineering, Jose is highly qualified in the field of energy technology. A member of the Engineers Association of Barcelona, Spain, he has designed land and rooftop PV systems that have been installed in Europe and Africa since 2007.

David Sampere

David holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering and an MSc in Renewable Energy and Electric Systems. A member of the Technical Telecommunication Engineers Association in Barcelona, Spain, he has helped design land and rooftop PV installations since 2009, both in Europe and Africa.

Armando Roci

Along with a Civil engineering Degree from Polytechnic University in Barcelona, Armando also qualified as a Quality control specialist. His work experience in multidisciplinary divisions has made him a specialist in developing commercial networks related to photovoltaic business around the globe. Defining company standards and contracting procedures, Armando’s leadership has made him a benefit to the industry.

Carryn Bateman

As a Chartered Accountant from SAICA and obtaining a Higher Diploma in Accounting (Honours) from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Accounting from the University of Stellenbosch and  CFA Levels I and II, Carryn a thorough understanding towards applicable regulations and the workings of various financial instruments and has allowed her to demonstrate her skillsets and analytical thinking.

Francisco Gallardo

Obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications  Engineering from the University of  Politecnica in Madrid in 1981, he has since achieved many accolades in his career including his involvement in the Global market research for instrumentation. His passion has served the industry exceptionally well in his 3 decades in the renewable energy sector.

Prof. Martin Nasser

As Professor and extraordinaire of Management and Economic Sciences at the University of Pretoria, Prof Nasser is internationally known for his progressive thinking, ability to drive innovation and practical and business experience. He remains one of the few South African academics whose consultancy services are in demand by Ivy League institutions such as Harvard University and the Wharton Institute (USA).
